2019 Cobalt R7

$129,000

The R7 is an upscale ski-boarding-cruising boat from Cobalt, a premium builder. She boasts stunning performance and comfort, and many state-of-the-art features.

Boarding from the dock or water is facilitated by a fold-down step that flips back up out of the way and integrates into the swim platform. The stern features a large sunpad that has a flip-up back support making a short rear-facing lounge. Or, the versatile fore and aft backrest can be moved to create more sprawling forward or rear facing seating. Tucked in the port rear corner is a control for the upgraded stereo.

The sunpad runs atop the padded, insulated engine compartment.

Forward to starboard is a roomy settee with a hinged cushion and storage beneath. Opposed to that to port is another bench seat with cushioned backrest. Beneath that seat is a very deep and wide compartment that houses the battery management panel with switches and breakers. There is room for all sorts of gear as well.

Ahead, to port, is another double-wide fore/aft lounge/companion seat. Forward of that is the very accessible and surprisingly accommodating enclosed head compartment. Across to starboard is the comfortable, adjustable swiveling captain's chair with armrests. Centered below deck between the seating is a deep and wide storage locker built to accommodate skis, gear and poles.

The center windshield swings open and latches in place. there are two forward-facing lounge seats with padded backs and swing-up armrests. The starboard seat base swings up on a hinge to expose another cavernous storage compartment, capable of holding all of the life jackets and fenders you'd care to carry. The bow seating is generous and comfortable, with removable seat cushions and storage below.

There is a latching forward deck hatch in the bow that houses the anchor windlass. The stainless plow anchor sits in an anchor chute integrated into the bow stem.

The engine compartment is accessed via a gas-shock-assisted hatch lift.

The engine bay is clean and organized. There is storage to the port and starboard. Batteries are in the port rear and very accessible for service or replacement. Exterior Features

The Cobalt R7 is 27'8" LOA. The unpainted bottom features a fairly steep entry with spray chines forward, tapering down to a smooth running surface with a 21 degree deadrise. In the stern, the the drive and transom assembly are recessed forward, with the hull sides and bottom extending aft of the upper gearcase, functioning almost like sponsons. This design works to cantilever the bow down more quickly during acceleration. With this power she'll see 30 mph in about 6 seconds.

The swim platform is huge and very functional. It has a cool and comfortable synthetic surface for sure foothold. There is a bracket to mount the cockpit table to the transom and serve the sunpad seating. To the port there is a stereo remote.

The top deck has generous non-skid and cockpit carpeting throughout. Overhead, there is a forward-raking, forward-folding steel and aluminum pipe-arch that supports a fore and aft sunshade.

There are ample and generous cleats around the gunnels. Plus, the boat is equipped with removable, stainless fender clips.

Head

The boat has a private, enclosed head compartment forward of the companion seat. It is easily accessible, and fairly roomy as these things go. It is equipped with a skylight, 12v light, and a porta-pot.

Helm and Dash

The Cobalt R7 has a very ergonomically friendly helm arrangement. The captain's seat swivels and slides, has a high backrest and armrests. The engine controls and Volvo Penta engine monitor are naturally arranged at the captain's right hand on the bulkhead. The steering wheel is a padded, 3-spoke sport wheel with tilt.
